AFTER decades of unwavering dedication to the cause of Chinese education, the Penang and Province Wellesley United Chinese School Management Association chairman Lee Thiam Lim has received a well-deserved honour.
The 73-year-old veteran educationist was conferred with the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) award, which carries the honorific title ‘Datuk’, in conjunction with the 84th birthday celebration of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang, Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Ramli Ngah Talib.
Lee’s recognition comes as a testament to his lifelong commitment to strengthening the Chinese education system in Penang with persistency.

“Despite my age, I still have the energy and determination to continue contributing to Chinese education.
“I feel overwhelmed and deeply honoured by this recognition. It will serve as further motivation for me to carry on this meaningful work. My family has been my pillar of strength throughout this journey, always standing behind me and supporting my efforts,” said Lee.
Accompanying him at the ceremony was his son, Machang Bubok assemblyman Lee Khai Loon, who expressed pride in his father’s achievements and thanked the state for acknowledging his father’s lifelong sacrifices.
“I am truly proud of my father’s accomplishments. This recognition is not just for him, but also for the value of Chinese education and those who work quietly behind the scenes. I hope his journey will serve as an inspiration to others,” said Khai Loon.
Lee’s leadership has been instrumental in mobilising resources, advocating for policy reforms, and strengthening the network of Chinese vernacular schools in Penang.
His award marks a significant milestone in a lifetime of service to the community.
