THE decision on whether Penang will or will not dissolve its state assembly for polls to be held concurrently with the 15th General Election (GE15) will be officially announced tomorrow.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who is also the state Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, said the crucial decision would be announced by the central PH leadership.

“We had meetings with the state party committee, DAP central executive committee (CEC) and the Penang Pakatan Harapan.

“The matter was also brought to the Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting for further discussion.

“In the PH presidential council meeting, we stated our reasons, very strong ones on why Penang need to dissolve its state legislative assembly for elections to be held concurrently with the GE15.

“We have asked for the PH presidential council to reconsider its early decision that the three states under the PH coalition namely Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang would not be dissolving their state legislative assemblies this year.

“Nevertheless, we should wait for the final decision that will be announced by the central Pakatan Harapan tomorrow,” Chow told reporters when asked at the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneur Section (PCCC YES) KPI Recognition programme at Gurney Hotel in George Town today.

On Oct 10, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob dissolved the Dewan Rakyat to pave the way for the GE15.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong consented to the dissolution as per Article 40(2)(b) and Article 55(2) of the Federal Constitution.
