THE spirit of Deepavali shone brightly at Penang Hospital as 800 festive goodie bags were distributed to patients in conjunction with the Festival of Lights celebration.
Having been carried out annually for the past seven years, this is a collaborative effort between the Yayasan Amal Tuan Yang Terutama Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang and the Malaysia Hindhudharma Mamandaram Penang.

Each goodie bag, filled with murukku mix, fruits, and cookies, was handed out to patients at the hospital’s orthopaedic ward, bringing smiles and festive warmth to those receiving treatment.
Penang Hospital deputy director (Medical Services 1) Dr B. Maheshvar expressed his appreciation for the continuous effort shown by the organisers.
“We are truly touched and grateful for this wonderful contribution.
“Thank you for doing this on a yearly basis, and I wish everyone a very Happy Deepavali,” he said.
Malaysia Hindhudharma Mamandaram Penang chairman N. Thanbalan said the team was pleased to continue this meaningful tradition.

“It is our way of spreading love and festive cheer to those who may not be able to celebrate with their families,” he added.
Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Vickneson Rajendran also commended the initiative.

“I am happy to note this contribution from the Yayasan TYT and Malaysia Hindhudharma Mamandaram Penang.

“I hope next year I can contribute on behalf of the MBPP as well,” he said.
Also present were Yayasan Amal TYT representative Suhaimi Chee Mugther and Penang Hospital nursing supervisor G. Malathi.
