THE Persatuan Tamilavel Ko Sarangabani has conducted a special programme to help senior citizens improve digital literacy through using a smartphone.
A free technology class was held at the Butterworth Digital Library today for those aged 40 and above.
Twenty-five participants took part in the programme.
Persatuan Tamilavel Ko Sarangabani chairman JM Purushothaman said the participants were taught on how to use smartphone applications effectively during the programme.
“Technology has become an essential part of our lives. We have become dependent on various gadgets to make our lives easier and one of the important gadgets is the smartphone.
“However, the elderly may not be technology savvy.
“We are holding this programme to help them improve their digital skills.
“We teach them how to use the MySejahtera app, some online shopping apps, as well as apps for online banking, smart parking, e-billing, e-hailing and others,” Purushothaman said in his speech today.
Bagan Dalam assemblyman M. Satees officiated the programme.
Satees lauded the initiative by the association.
“I believe that it is important for senior citizens to be equipped with such knowledge so that they can fully utilise the smartphone and the apps to help them in their daily lives,” he said.
