DIGITAL Penang is now inviting applications for the 3rd Cohort of the Hardtech & Deeptech Commercialisation Accelerator (HDCA) 2025, a high-impact, nine-month accelerator programme designed to fast-track transformative hardware-based and deeptech innovations into real-world markets.
This strategic initiative empowers scientists, engineers, and innovators in Penang to commercialise their lab-developed solutions, offering structured support through matched Proof-of-Concept (PoC) trials, experienced mentorship, and venture-building workshops. The most outstanding startup will earn the chance to pitch live to investors at the Startup Venture Vibe Summit in Penang.
The HDCA 2025 programme unfolds in five key stages: application and shortlisting, sponsor matching for PoC development, real-world deployment, and business venture development, and culminates in live investor pitching at the Startup Venture Vibe Summit in Penang.
This initiative aligns with Malaysia’s Startup Ecosystem Roadmap (SUPER), advancing innovation, digital economic growth, and national competitiveness. It also supports the Penang2030 vision of building a connected, creative, and competitive society through the commercialisation of next-generation technologies.
“Hardtech and deeptech are the next frontiers for Penang. Building on the strength of our manufacturing and E&E sectors, we are determined to become a leading innovation hub for the region,” said state Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari.
Digital Penang continues its collaboration with 1337 Ventures, a leading early-stage startup venture development firm, for the third consecutive year. Previous cohorts have successfully commercialised solutions in space technology, agritech, industrial safety vision systems, industrial IoT connectivity, advanced cybersecurity, and more.
HDCA 2025 is open to university spin-offs, research teams, engineers, and innovators with prototypes at Technology Readiness Level 7 (TRL-7) who are keen to accelerate their entry into the market. Whether developing cutting-edge hardware, deeptech, or emerging technologies, this programme offers a powerful launchpad for commercial success.
In line with Penang’s innovation priorities, HDCA 2025 welcomes applications from all hardtech and deeptech sectors, with particular emphasis on HealthTech, GreenTech, Artificial Intelligence, Consumer Tech, and Climate Tech. However, innovators from any sector are strongly encouraged to apply.
