CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow today told a press conference that normal and intensive care unit (ICUs) beds, as well as other ICU-related facilities, are sufficient at three hospitals in Penang.

They are the Kepala Batas Hospital (fully managing Covid-19 cases only), Penang Hospital and Bukit Mertajam Hospital (both Covid-19 hybrid hospitals).

Chow said the state Health Department had previously taken the efforts to increase the number of beds in all the relevant hospitals following the rapid surge of new Covid-19 cases in the state lately.

“The state Health Department has been monitoring the situation closely from Thursday (Aug 5) and the department will see if more beds and facilities are needed when the one-week monitoring period ends on Wednesday (Aug 11),” Chow said.
