Feb 28 Covid-19 screening deadline for foreign workers not feasible

PENANG Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Commitee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo is demanding answers from the Federal Government on the solution to screen over 140,000 foreign workers in Penang for Covid-19 by Feb 28.

“We have no issues screening the foreign workers, but how can we do it by Feb 28 as instructed by the Federal Government when our capacity is low?

“Sometimes when you give an instruction that cannot be met, it is futile. We want to know the solution to this issue from the Federal Government.

“We have 140,450 registered foreign workers in Penang. We hope that the Federal Government can provide the assistance to implement it,” Jagdeep told a press conference at Sri Pelangi apartment in Datuk Keramat today.

Jagdeep said he was also wondering how the Government could provide Covid-19 vaccines to 26.5 million Malaysians (which is about 80% of the country’s population) when the capacity to screen about 140,000 foreign workers in Penang was low.

“The rest of the world are vaccinating their people while we are doing Covid-19 screenings.

“It is good that we have a plan to vaccinate 26.5 million Malaysians, but how do you execute it?” he asked.

Jagdeep and Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer were at Sri Pelangi apartment to distribute face masks, calendars and mandarin oranges to the residents there in view of the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration.
