Financial aid for six schools in Bukit Gelugor

SIX schools in the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency will receive some funds for the purchase of equipment.

Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh said the funds for the schools, namely SK Sungai Gelugor, SK Bukit Gelugor, SK Sri Aman, SJKC Chio Nan, SMK Air Itam and SMK Datuk Mohd Nor Ahmad, totalled RM189,463.

He added that part of the total funding was for the development of Karpal Singh Digital Hub at SK Sungai Gelugor which would receive a total of RM48,793 over four phases.

“A sum of RM8,853 and RM31,940 had been given out for Phase One in 2018 and Phase Two in 2019 respectively.

“The school will receive RM4,000 this year for Phase Three and another RM4,000 next year for Phase Four.

“The Digital Hub development involves the supply of ICT equipment and upgrade of the ICT room,” he said at a press conference held at SK Sungai Gelugor today.

Aside for the funds for the digital hub, SK Sungai Gelugor would receive a total of RM62,403 to purchase mainly equipment and upgrade other facilities in the school.

Also present were SK Sungai Gelugor headmaster Fairus Ayob and Northeast District assistant officer (planning) Abdul Said Hussain.

Ramkarpal added that the objective of the programme was to establish a harmonious environment for the local community and the state government to foster good relationship.

“It is also aimed at improving the living standard of both teachers and students,” he said.

Abdul Said expressed his gratitude to Ramkarpal for his contribution towards the ‘Ziarah Cakna’ programme, adding that either the MP or his representative would visit four poor families next week.
