THE first-ever community recycling centre (segregation station) in Bagan Jermal is now fully operational for its constituents.

The centre is located at Dewan Sri Bagan Jermal in Butterworth.

Bagan Jermal assemblyman Soon Lip Chee said with such centre, Bagan Jermal constituents can now recycle their rubbish easily instead of disposing all of it.

“Actually, the centre had a soft reopening in May this year before officially opening today with the cost of RM11,000 under my office allocation.

“And from May until November this year, we managed to collect about 5,000kg of recyclable materials through this centre.

“Among the materials are metal, aluminium, electronic waste, paper, plastic and old clothes.

“Thus, this shows that the awareness among the people here is high and we hope the good momentum will continue in order for us to protect the environment through recycling,” said Soon, who is also the state Youth and Sports Committee chairman, during the launching ceremony at Dewan Sri Bagan Jermal in Butterworth today.

Also present were Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) councillor Ng Yee Siang and Riiicycle Tech Sdn Bhd advisor Andrew Lim Chee Keong.

According to Soon, Bagan Jermal constituents can also use the recycling application known as ‘Riiicycle’ to collect points whenever they send their recyclable materials to this centre.

“The app was created by Riiicycle Tech Sdn Bhd through collaboration with my service centre and Kampung Simpah MPKK (Village Community Management Council).

“They just need to scan the QR code after they send their materials here.

“And with enough points, they can redeem various recycling products through the app.

“With this initiative, we hope it can encourage the people here to recycle their waste for a better environment for all,” he added.
