GERMAN Ambassador Holger Michael and his team of Datuk Herbert Weiler and Datuk Hans Brenner called on Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng at

his office in Komtar on April 29.

Michael thanked the Chief Minister for the support given by the state to the German community in Penang over the last eight years since the

present government came into power.

He added that local participation of the German community is vital and a big challenge in supporting the state to develop German-based

entrepreneurship. The Chief Minister in briefing his visitors said the Penang Transport Master Plan is progressing as scheduled.

“If everything goes well, the project will kick-off by beginning of next year,” he added.

Brenner succeeded Weiler who retired after more than 23 years of service as the German Honorary Consul to Penang, Kedah and Perlis.

Meanwhile, earlier on April 28, Lim played host to Japanese Consul-General Kiyoshi Itoi who paid him a courtesy visit.

In welcoming his guest, Lim hoped more Japanese festivals could be organised in Penang, following the likes of Anime Matsuri and Yosakhoi

festivals.

“There should also be Japanese pop shows to bring in the younger generation.

“This will help to further strengthen the existing cordial relationship between Japan and Penang,” Lim said.
