RENOWNED for its sesame oil and traditional tau sar pneah (green bean biscuits), Ghee Hiang today unveiled its new Penang Series Cookies and launched the GH Café Corner at its main outlet along Macalister Road.
Ghee Hiang executive director Datuk Ch’ng Huck Theng said the newly introduced Penang Cookies Series features locally inspired creations such as Durian Cookies and Nasi Lemak with Anchovies Cookies.

“Ghee Hiang is Malaysia’s oldest pastry brand and has been part of Penang for 170 years. Since our beginning in 1856, we’ve grown alongside the community, always guided by tradition while continually finding ways to innovate.
“However, we cannot be content with sales. As a trusted Penang heritage brand, long supported by Penang lang (Penang people), we must take this initiative to help promote Penang itself as the place to live, visit, invest, study and seek medical help,” Ch’ng said.

The GH Café Corner adopts a convenient grab-and-go concept, offering freshly brewed coffee paired with warm, baked biscuits to provide customers with a more complete and enjoyable experience.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, who officiated the unveiling ceremony, said GH’s initiatives, like these, demonstrated that tradition and creativity could go hand in hand.
“By evolving while staying rooted in heritage, Ghee Hiang sets an example of how brands can remain relevant, inspire others, and contribute positively to the state’s economy, tourism, and cultural identity,” he said.
Wong added that he hoped the launch today would inspire more local businesses to innovate while celebrating Penang’s unique identity.
“Let’s continue to work together to make Penang a place where tradition, creativity, and entrepreneurship thrive side by side,” he said.
Also present at the launching ceremony were Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang, Malaysian Association of Hotels (Penang Chapter) president Datuk Tony Goh, Digital Penang chief executive officer Ng Kwang Ming, Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Penang Chapter chairman Carolyn Leong Mei Ching, Penang Tourist Guides Association president Clement Liang and Penang Chefs Association culinary adviser Thomas See Swee Heng.
