Girl Guides donate tents to Penang govt

THE Penang Girl Guides’ Association has stepped forward to contribute 45 cube tents to the state government today.

 

Its chief commissioner Lim Yen Lee said the association had received the tents from the Girl Guides’ Association Malaysia in their collaboration with the Temasek Foundation International in Singapore.

 

“We have since decided to hand the tents to the state as it may need them in the event of a disaster.

“We understand that the state has fully utilised this sort of tents, especially at flood evacuation centres.

 

“We will be also giving out tents to other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) or any organisation which may need it,” she told Buletin Mutiara in Komtar.

 

State Environment and Welfare Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh, who was present to receive the tents, said he was thankful to the Penang Girl Guides’ Association for lending a helping hand.

 

“These tents will assist us when any disaster takes place. We appreciate the kind gesture from the girl guides’ association.

“In fact, we had launched our disaster management unit to manage any natural disaster.

 

“It is in line with our green initiative. In 2017, we had managed to handle the flood situation well,” he said.

 

Also present were Girl Guides’ Association Malaysia trainers Joyce Ong and Lim Oon Chan.
