THE 10th edition of Glo-Walk X, organised by Tech Dome Penang in conjunction with the Penang2030 Festival at 1st Avenue Mall on Saturday (Oct 11), drew an enthusiastic crowd of approximately 3,500 participants.

Since its debut in 2015, Glo-Walk has evolved into one of Penang’s most iconic community events, blending science, fitness and creativity while serving as a fundraising platform to support Tech Dome Penang’s STEM education and outreach initiatives.

This year’s event featured a vibrant lineup of activities, including a cosplay competition, interactive game booths, glow-themed attractions, and live performances, creating a festive and family-friendly evening. Booth activities began at 5pm, followed by a scenic 3km night walk around George Town.

One of the highlights was the Cosmic Cosplay Competition, where participants of all ages showcased their creativity. Winners received attractive prizes, with RM500 and a trophy for the champion, RM300 and a trophy for second place, and RM200 and a trophy for third.

Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, who officiated the event as the guest of honour, congratulated Tech Dome on reaching its 10th milestone and extended appreciation to the sponsors — Platinum sponsors: Flex, Globetronics, and Greatech; Gold sponsors: Projet, Wiitrac Elevator, and A2 Automation; Silver sponsors: GSH Precision, Pentamaster, VAT, Abbott, ATS, NSW, Edu Wisdom, and Kiwanis Penang Central — for their strong support.

“The theme of Glo-Walk has always been about light, and that light represents more than just glowing headbands or bright colours. It symbolises knowledge, hope and togetherness. These are the very values that drive our Penang2030 vision, a vision of a family-focused, green and smart state that inspires the world.

“I am especially pleased to see the exciting new addition this year, the cosplay competition. It shows how science and creativity can come together to inspire the imagination of our youth,” Jagdeep said.

Before the walk, participants were energised with a kickboxing warm-up session conducted by Orient Fitness. Upon completing the route, they were treated to a lively dance performance by Let’s Dance Studio while awaiting the much-anticipated lucky draw.

The evening featured a variety of interactive station games, culminating in a grand lucky draw offering more than 50 prizes, including a brand-new mountain bike as the grand prize. Along the route, three dedicated drink stations kept participants hydrated with free drinks, generously sponsored by 100PLUS, Oligo and Sunquick.

Among the notable attendees were assemblymen Kumaresan Aramugam (Batu Uban), Chee Yeeh Keen (Bagan Jermal) and Lee Boon Heng (Kebun Bunga).

Tech Dome Penang chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi said the Glo-Walk X embodies the spirit of the Penang2030 vision, fostering a creative, inclusive, and vibrant community.

“All proceeds from the event will go toward the continuous development of Tech Dome Penang, helping to inspire curiosity, innovation and scientific exploration for generations to come,” he said.

Khoo also expressed gratitude to all the sponsors, strategic partners, and volunteers for their contributions, endorsement and encouragement.
