A TOTAL of 76 traders can now operate their businesses with peace of mind following the official opening of the Island Glades Morning Market today.
The morning market, which operates daily from 7am to 12pm, is located at Lorong Delima 6, Seri Delima, near SMK Hamid Khan.

The initiative is the brainchild of Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan Hooi Peng and is supported by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).
In her speech, Connie said the market underwent a three-month trial period beginning in September last year.
“Previously, some of these traders had temporary ‘tagging’, but most were operating illegally and were forced to flee whenever MBPP’s licensing enforcement team appeared.
“Now, they no longer need to run away or fear being compounded, as all of them have obtained the necessary licences to operate legally,” she told Buletin Mutiara during the opening ceremony.
Also present were Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran, MBPP councillors Rohaizat Hamid, Visvenathan Tangavello, Koay Gaik Kee and Tan Soo Siang.
Meanwhile, Tan said the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) in the area would work together with MBPP to monitor the market and prevent new illegal traders from setting up stalls.
“They will monitor and cooperate to ensure that all stalls here can operate in a peaceful, safe and licensed manner,” she said.
