THE section of Jalan Tun Sardon leading to Balik Pulau is still closed to traffic for cleanup and slope-stabilisation works to continue, following a series of landslides and rockfalls caused by recent heavy rains.
State Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said there have been no new reports of soil movement or falling rocks along the stretch.

“Contractors are currently carrying out clearing works in safe zones. Earlier, large boulders had fallen due to ground movement, but fortunately, the road was already closed at the time, or otherwise, the consequences could have been severe,” he said when contacted.
Zairil said the Public Works Department (PWD) does not rule out the possibility of reopening the road earlier than the initial Oct 31 target, depending on weather and site conditions.
“The road may reopen earlier, but we will only do so once it is confirmed safe for motorists. Public safety remains our top priority,” he added.
Meanwhile, at the nearby Titi Kerawang federal route, part of the road has been reopened to light vehicles and motorcycles, but heavy vehicles are still prohibited.

“The federal government has approved an emergency allocation for repair works, and the project will commence as soon as possible,” Zairil said.
Contractor teams have been seen clearing fallen trees, mud and rocks, with works progressing smoothly. Most of the mud and debris from earlier landslides have been removed.
