JPWKs recreate Malaysian patriotic music video for Merdeka Day

ALTHOUGH this year Malaysia is celebrating its National Day in a new normal, the true spirit of ‘Merdeka’ cannot be broken.

While Malaysians are unable to gather together physically to celebrate Merdeka like all the other years, they can be together in their thoughts and honour the day.

As such, the Women and Family Development Committees (JPWKs) of Seri Delima, Air Putih and Air Itam have come up with a special video to commemorate the Merdeka Day on Aug 31.

State executive councillor for Women & Family Development, Gender Inclusiveness and Religions Other Than Islam Chong Eng said the video was produced to encourage fellow Malaysians to stand united as one nation.

“The rough time that we are going through right now has not dampened our spirit of love and patriotism for our country.

“This music video was initiated with the intention to ignite the spirit of togetherness among fellow Malaysians.

“Amid the pandemic, we are also facing a political turmoil in the country but let us not get swayed by it.

“Let us brush aside all that and celebrate our  63rd Merdeka in a more memorable way,” said Chong Eng during JPWK’s ‘Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebration’ at the Penang Harmony Centre on Aug 29.

Also present was Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim.

The music video features Malaysian patriotic song ‘Setia’ sung by Chong Eng, Seri Delima assemblyman Syerleena Abdul Rashid, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, Penang Island City Council councillor Tan Soo Siang and team from JPWK and Penang Women Development Corporation.

The song, which was originally sung by Francissca Peter, was produced by RTM in 1987.
