CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow today confirmed that the recent Conference of Rulers had deliberated on matters related to judicial appointments, but urged the public to await an official announcement from the palace.
Speaking to reporters at a media conference held at the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC) today, Chow acknowledged that the issue was discussed during the royal meeting and that there was consensus among the Rulers.
However, he emphasised that the formal decision lies with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“The Conference of Rulers did discuss and endorse the matter concerning judicial appointments.
“But we must now wait for the official announcement from the palace,” Chow said.
Chow was responding to media queries following a general statement issued yesterday indicating that the subject had been addressed during the meeting of the Rulers.
“The statement yesterday was just to confirm that the matter had been brought up.
“We should allow the King to make the necessary and official announcement in due course,” he added.
While speculation continues to circulate, the Chief Minister reminded the public to respect the constitutional process and await formal confirmation from the Istana Negara.
