THE Kiwanis Club of Penang Central (KCPC) marked a significant milestone at its 5th Installation Dinner, celebrating past achievements while ushering in a new leadership chapter with the installation of Catherine Kang as incoming president.
The evening also paid tribute to the outgoing leadership led by Dr Ngoo Seong Boon, who reflected on his tenure with pride, describing it as a meaningful journey of service, teamwork and impact.
“Leading this club has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my Kiwanis journey.
“What we achieved together was never about one individual, but about a committed team driven by the desire to serve,” he said.
Dr Ngoo highlighted several high-impact initiatives delivered during his term, including projects focused on healthcare, children’s welfare and community support, noting that these efforts would continue to benefit society well beyond his presidency.
“I am proud that we focused on sustainable projects with real outcomes, especially those that touch the lives of children and families.
“These are legacies the club can continue to build upon,” he added.
Expressing full confidence in the new leadership, Dr Ngoo said he was optimistic about the club’s future as he passed the baton to Catherine.
“I hand over the responsibility with great confidence.
“The club is in good hands, and I look forward to supporting the new president and board as they take KCPC to greater heights,” he said.
In her inaugural address, Catherine described the leadership transition as a renewal of collective purpose rather than a mere change of roles.
“Today is not just a change in leadership — it is a renewal of our shared commitment towards serving and making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who rely on our help,” she said.
She expressed gratitude to the previous board led by Dr Ngoo, acknowledging their dedication and groundwork that positioned the club strongly for the future.
“Our success will come from our unity, our collaboration, and our shared belief that every act of generosity, no matter how big or small, creates a ripple of hope,” Catherine added.
She also pledged to lead with empathy and integrity, announcing the club’s new service theme, ‘To Serve With LOVE!’, as the guiding principle for the year ahead.
Meanwhile, Chartered President Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai praised KCPC’s steady growth and impact since its founding, saying the club had stayed true to its mission of serving children and communities.
“We exist to serve the children of the world, one child, one project, one community at a time,” he said.
He commended the outgoing board for delivering meaningful initiatives, including the Sensory Room at Penang Hospital, and congratulated Catherine and her team on assuming leadership.
The dinner brought together Kiwanis leaders, partners and supporters, underscoring KCPC’s enduring commitment to service, continuity and compassionate leadership in Penang.
Also present at the dinner was prominent Kiwanis patron, Puan Seri Christine Khir Johari, who is also the mother of state executive councillor, Zairil Khir Johari.
