Kiosks at shopping complexes to operate with a licence come Sept 1, says MBPP

KIOSKS operators at shopping complexes in the city of George Town will from Sept 1 be required to operate with a licence issued by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).

MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang at a press conference this morning said after chairing a full council meeting at the council office in Padang Kota Lama.

“For a kiosk operating from a 10 metre area space or below, the licence fee will be RM120 per year. While operators having a kiosk bigger than that will have to pay RM240 per year,” he said.

He also added that Sept 1 had been set as the deadline for such operators to apply for the licence.

“The management of shopping complexes have been informed of this new requirement and our ground staff will follow up accordingly,” he said.

Yew revealed that there are some 780 kiosks in operation at shopping complexes on the island.

“MBPP hopes the operators of these kiosks will apply for their licences as soon as possible.”

On another matter, Yew said the Asia Pacific Master Games Torch Run 2018 will reach Penang for the opening ceremony on September 8, at Stadium Bandar Raya in Datuk Keramat.

He urged Penangites to come to the opening event schedule at 7.30pm.

He said sixty five countries will take part in APMG 2018 where some 6,533 participants will compete in 22 events.

Also present were MBPP’S secretary Addnan Mohd Razali and director of licensing department, Azman Sirun.
