THE Kiwanis Club of Penang Central today organised a fundraising dinner, called ‘Starry Starry Nite, to help raise funds for differently abled children and underprivileged individuals.

Specifically, the night was dedicated to Kiwanis Penang’s signature service projects, namely, the Kiwanis Educates Children for the future, the Young Enterprise programme and the Mental Health Series.

This was also in conjunction with Kiwanis One Day, a day set aside for Kiwanis clubs across the globe to work together to better their communities and to invite friends and family to join them.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present to grace the dinner, congratulated Kiwanis Penang and all the sponsors for organising a special fundraising effort as an additional platform for the betterment of the people’s welfare.

“I understand that various contributions will be made today to special needs children, young cancer patients, children’s homes, a retirement home and so on.

“Not forgetting, I would also like to thank all those involved, especially those that have extended their support in making this event much more meaningful.

“It is my ardent hope that all of you will continue to bend together in carrying out such noble efforts.

“Together with good and sincere intentions, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need,” Chow said in his speech during the dinner at Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas today.

Formed in 1915 in the United States of America, Kiwanis is a global organisation of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.

It was then introduced in Malaysia in 1976 by the late Tan Sri Mohd Khir Johari, a former Malaysian politician and Education Minister.

In 2017, Kiwanis was expanded in Penang and was officially called the Kiwanis Club of Penang Central.

Also present during the dinner were state Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari and his mother Puan Seri Lim Abdullah Cristine, Kiwanis Malaysia district governor Rosemary Tan, Kiwanis Penang president Ng Lan Kheng and Kiwanis Penang charter president Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai.
