PENANG will send their biggest-ever contingent of football veterans to the 26th World Chinese Evergreen Cup in Tianjin, China, taking place from Sept 22 to Sept 27, with 106 players and officials representing the state in the international tournament.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the Penang Chinese Football Association (PCFA) would field four teams in the 45, 50, 55 and 60-year-old categories.
“This is not only the largest line-up ever sent by the association, but also a major highlight for Penang sports,” he said at the state flag handover ceremony today.
Chow said the Evergreen Cup was more than a football tournament, describing it as a global platform for unity and cultural exchange among Chinese communities worldwide.
He recalled that Penang successfully hosted the 24th edition of the tournament in 2023, which drew a record number of teams and earned praise from international participants.
Chow also commended PCFA for being one of the most active sporting organisations in the state, contributing to the development of youth football while also providing opportunities for senior players.

“Football is truly a sport for all ages. I am confident our teams will give their best shot and make Penang proud,” he said, while reminding the players to strive their best.
PCFA president Teoh Choon Kheng hoped the delegation would give their best in the tournament and make the state proud.
“We look forward to the upcoming tournament,” he said.
Those present were treated to a sumptuous dinner during the ceremony.
Among those present at the ceremony were Chow’s political secretary Lau Keng Ee, former national stars Datuk Dell Akbar Khan, Datuk Shukor Salleh, Datuk Wira Soh Chin Aun, Olympic double gold medallist in diving, Lin Yue of China, PCFA honorary president Tan Sri H’ng Bok San, and World Chinese Football Federation vice president Lee Soon Huat.
The 26th World Chinese Evergreen Cup will see participation from veteran football clubs across the globe.
