LOH Guan Lye Specialists Centre (LGLSC) has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first hospital in Malaysia to receive four-year accreditation under the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) Seventh Edition Standards.
The latest edition places greater emphasis on quality improvement, patient safety, clinical practices, governance, as well as the consistency and sustainability of healthcare systems and processes.
Following extensive policy training, reviews and the strengthening of clinical and operational procedures, the successful accreditation reflects the hospital’s collective commitment to enhancing its quality and safety culture.
Attending the accreditation ceremony were state Health Department director Dr Zulhizzam Abdullah, MSQH chief executive officer Dr Heric Corray, LGLSC chief executive officer Dr Mary CH Quah, LGLSC executive director Dr Nicholas Shin Wye, and LGLSC chief operating officer Tan Li Hwa.
Dr Quah opened the event by acknowledging the efforts and dedication of the hospital’s staff in achieving the milestone.
“Today is about our people behind the achievement and the countless hours of hard work, teamwork and commitment.
“Every one of you has played a part in today’s event,” she said.
Dr Quah also shared her thoughts on the responsibilities of being a doctor at LGLSC, emphasising that quality goes beyond simply meeting assessment requirements.
“For me, quality is not about simply passing an assessment, but doing the right thing when nobody is watching,” she said.
Dr Corray then took the stage to explain the significance of accreditation and its role in healthcare improvement.
“Accreditation highlights the critical importance of patient safety and should not be seen as an end goal, but as an ongoing journey,” he said.
He added that the achievement contributed to the growing number of high-quality and safer healthcare facilities in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Dr Zulhizzam highlighted the importance of maintaining these values as LGLSC continues its healthcare journey.
“I hope these values will continue to guide everyone at Loh Guan Lye Specialists Centre in their daily work and in every interaction with their patients,” he said.
The ceremony also featured a live singing performance and special video compilations highlighting the hospital’s five decades of service and its commitment to caring for generations of patients.
The event concluded with a tour of the hospital’s facilities, including the Presidential Suites, medical equipment and specialised rooms.
As LGLSC marks its 50th anniversary, the latest accreditation represents another milestone in its journey of providing quality healthcare services, while looking ahead to the next 50 years.
