ONE of Penang’s oldest private hospitals, LohGuanLye Specialists Centre (LSC), celebrated its golden jubilee today by planting 50 trees to signify 50 years of care.
The tree-planting initiative, themed ‘50 Trees for 50 Years’, took place at the Penang Botanic Gardens this morning, marking the hospital’s continued commitment to sustainability, community well-being, and environmental stewardship.

A total of 50 Italian cypress trees (Cupressus sempervirens) were planted and each tree symbolically representing a year of LSC’s journey in advancing quality healthcare and service excellence.

The meaningful event brought together LSC’s management team, doctors, nurses and staff, alongside representatives from the Penang Botanic Gardens Department and community partners, who jointly planted the trees as a sign of unity, responsibility, and hope for a greener future.
LSC executive director Nicholas Loh said this green initiative not only commemorates the hospital’s five decades of service, but also supports the government’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspirations.

“Through initiatives like ‘50 Trees for 50 Years’, LSC reaffirms its dedication not only to healthcare excellence, but also to social responsibility and environmental care, and thus, continuing our mission to nurture both the people and the planet,” he said.
Established in 1975, LohGuanLye Specialists Centre today stands as one of Penang’s leading private healthcare institutions, offering comprehensive medical and surgical services anchored on quality care, innovation and community wellness.
Also present were Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid special officers Muhamad Danish Zainudin and Mohamad Firdaus Danial Anuar, Penang Botanical Gardens department director Mohamad Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy Ahmad, LSC chief operating officer Tan Li Hwa, LSC chief executive officer Dr Mary CH Quah and LSC business consultant Shirley Ho.
