MALAYSIA’s leading integrated telecommunications provider, Maxis, today announced a major expansion of its fibre network infrastructure through deployment in Penang.
Maxis chief executive officer Goh Seow Eng said Maxis’ fibre expansion aims to connect more than 100,000 homes in Penang by 2027.

“The rollout of Maxis fibre will span across all districts of Penang, with a focus on high-demand urban areas such as Jelutong, George Town, Batu Maung, Bayan Lepas, and Bayan Baru, alongside key locations in Seberang Perai.
“This initiative underscores Maxis’ long-term commitment to supporting the state’s digital agenda towards achieving the Penang2030 vision of ‘A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’,” said Goh in his speech.
A launch ceremony of Maxis fibre expansion programme was held at Dewan MPKK Bandar Cassia in Batu Kawan today. It was officiated by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
According to Goh, Maxis’ fibre expansion in the state was also facilitated by the ‘Last Mile Connectivity Guidelines’ recently introduced by the Penang government, a first-of-its-kind initiative in Malaysia.
“This progressive initiative streamlines pole-sharing guidelines and enables various telecommunications providers to deploy fibre networks more quickly and efficiently across the state.
“Maxis also expressed its appreciation to the state government for its foresight and commitment to expanding digital access and promoting competition,” he said.
Goh also reaffirmed Maxis’ support for Penang’s digital aspirations.
“Maxis is proud to support Penang’s digital journey with our fibre expansion, unlocking new opportunities for its people.
“Building our own fibre network gives us full visibility of our service quality, ensuring fast, reliable and secure connectivity our customers can count on.
“We deeply appreciate the Penang government’s visionary leadership and look forward to working together to advance the state’s digital agenda,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chow lauded this initiative, recognising its role in driving Penang’s digital agenda.

“The state government welcomes Maxis’ fibre expansion initiative, which is aligned with our Penang2030 vision to build a smart, green and inclusive state.
“High-quality internet connectivity is a critical driver for education, talent development and economic growth, all of which will further solidify Penang’s position as a regional hub for technology and innovation.
“As the rollout of Maxis fibre progresses across Penang, the robust and scalable network will benefit not only residents but also businesses in driving greater digitalisation.
“We will continue strengthening our state’s digital infrastructure to close the digital divide and ensure every Penangite is equipped to prosper in the future economy,” he said.
Also present during the ceremony were Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik and Digital Penang chief executive officer Ng Kwang Ming.
