THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) have imposed strict measures and standard operating procedures (SOPs) ever since the Covid-19 pandemic started.

In replying to a question from Gooi Zi Sen (PH – Pengkalan Kota) during State Legislature Assembly in Dewan Sri Pinang today, state Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo (PH – Datok Keramat) said both councils had taken swift actions to ensure everyone adhere to the SOPs.

For instance, he said the local authorities had ordered certain shops to be closed temporarily for flouting the regulations.

“Apart from that, disinfection process was also carried out at several premises to clean up the area.

“Besides that, joint enforcement efforts between councils, police and Volunteer Corps Department (RELA) were also carried out to make sure the public was following SOPs.

“These are the efforts being still conducted by the councils during the current pandemic,” he said, adding that both councils had done a good job.

He also highlighted that ever since attaining city status, MBPP and MBSP have received several accolades from various quarters.

“MBPP and MBSP had received 55 and 10 awards respectively,” Jagdeep added.
