THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has urged all food premises that are permitted to operate dine-in services from May 15 onwards to obey the 14 conditions set by the council.

MBPP senior health officer Goh Eng Chun said the premises must abide by the conditions provided or enforcement actions, which include closure, would be taken against the premises.

“Food premises in shopping malls, hotels and the fast food franchises are allowed to provide dine-in services from May 15 onwards. However, they must follow the conditions that are given.

“This is to protect the customers and the workers of the premises,” he said.

Among the conditions stated were, tables must be set up two metres apart, cutleries must be sterilised after each use, customers are not allowed to share cutleries, foreign workers must undergo Covid-19 health screening, no buffet allowed, premises must prepare hand sanitisers and practise one metre social distancing.

Goh and the council’s public health and licensing team members went on their rounds to monitor and to check out the preparations made the food premises.

They were met at the McDonald’s food outlet in Green Lane.

“I was told that the McDonald’s has not allowed any of their outlets to open for dine-ins although the outlets can provide dine-in services from May 15 onwards.

“When they decide to provide dine-in services, they must follow the 14 conditions provided,” Goh said.
