THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has recently received special recognition from the Local Government Development Ministry as an ‘Excellent Local Council’ in the environmental health campaign category.

The recognition was made in conjunction with World Environmental Health Day 2023, a significant event organised by the Local Government Development Ministry at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on Oct 17.

During the special ceremony, MBPP was represented by its Environmental Health Department deputy director Dr Chin Wee Loon.

The award was presented by Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming during the presentation ceremony.

Dr Chin said MBPP would like to thank the Local Government Development Ministry for the recognition of ‘Excellent Local Council’ for ‘Dengue Prevention Campaign 2023’.

He said MBPP is proud of the award and will take it as a stepping stone to enhance dengue fever prevention for the good health and well-being of the people of Penang.

Meanwhile, MBPP mayor Datuk Rajendran Anthony congratulated the city council’s Environmental Health Department for this remarkable achievement.

He said the recognition served as a testament to the MBPP Environmental Health Department’s commitment through its various campaigns to curb dengue in the state.

“I hope the Environmental Health Department will continue their good efforts to raise awareness among the public, such as distributing brochures, conducting roadshows and others,” he said.
