THE Malaysia Gold & Jewellery Trade Exhibition 2025 (MGJE 2025) commenced spectacularly today at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre, bringing together approximately 150 distinguished exhibitors to showcase dazzling gold masterpieces and intricate jewellery designs.
Now in its third edition, the prestigious three-day event continues to grow in stature, serving as a vibrant hub for business networking, creative exchange, and the celebration of artistry in the gold and jewellery sector.
Jointly organised by the Province Wellesley Gold & Silver Ornament Merchants Association (PWGS) and the Malaysia Gold Association, MGJE 2025 enjoys strong backing from the state Tourism and Creative Economy office (PETACE) through the Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB).
PWGS President Law Chin Hooi emphasised that MGJE 2025 is more than just an exhibition as it is a dynamic platform for industry players to connect, collaborate, and innovate.
“With 150 esteemed exhibitors and an expected turnout of over 10,000 visitors, the expo spans 4,500sq m of exhibition space.
“It presents a comprehensive view of the industry, from cutting-edge manufacturing techniques to timeless artisanal designs.
“This gathering reinforces the shared vision of transforming Malaysia into one of the world’s top ten gold and jewellery exporters,” said Law in his speech during the opening ceremony today.
According to Law, this year’s MGJE also features some of the most exciting lucky draws and engaging programmes to date.
“One of the key attractions is the MGJE Raffle Draw, where visitors can spin a lucky wheel to win cash vouchers, offering more savings on their purchases.
“Stage lucky draws will also draw crowds, with a chance to win simply by taking a selfie, posting it on Facebook with #MGJE, and being present at the venue when winners are announced!
“Winners will walk away with gold plates, jewellery, and other glittering prizes!” he said.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who officiated the opening ceremony, said MGJE 2025 continues to shine as a cornerstone of Malaysia’s jewellery calendar, linking tradition with transformation and artistry with opportunity.

“This year’s exhibition is particularly timely.

“As the global economic tide shifts, driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions, trade realignments, and the recent imposition of United States tariffs on selected countries, we find ourselves in a new and uncertain global landscape.

“But where some see volatility, we in Penang see opportunity.

“Several of these developments have contributed to a remarkable surge in global gold prices, which recently topped USD3,000 per ounce.

“This is not just market fluctuation but a signal.
“Gold, once again, is proving its timeless value as a secure and reliable investment, especially during periods of economic turbulence.
“And in this environment, events like today’s exhibition take on even greater relevance,” said Chow.
He further expressed his ambition for Penang to emerge as both a global destination for exhibitions and a national leader in gold and jewellery production.
“We believe in our local talent and in our small and medium enterprises (SMEs) ability to rise and shine and we stand ready to support them.
“Let’s focus on nurturing domestic-driven investment, creating a robust ecosystem where homegrown creativity and technical mastery can flourish.
“With the shifting global trade landscape, there has never been a better moment to position Penang as a key player and even a leader in the regional jewellery industry,” he added.
Chow also noted that MGJE 2025 aligns with the broader Penang2030 vision, a roadmap to transform the state into a diversified, future-ready economy.
“The jewellery industry, with its blend of tradition, innovation, and international appeal, fits perfectly into this vision,” he said.
Also present during the opening ceremony were Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng, PCEB chief executive officer Ashwin Gunasekeran, and Federation of Goldsmiths and Jewellers Associations of Malaysia (FGJAM) president Datuk Chiah Hock Yew.
