THE highly anticipated Malaysia International Miniature Hobby Show and Competition (MIMHS-MALCOM) wrapped up its 10th edition today, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of over 30,000 visitors across its two-day run at St Giles The Wembley Hotel in George Town.
Spearheaded by World Hobby Miniatures founder Choo Huang Ming, the event has grown into one of the world’s top five and Southeast Asia’s largest model exhibitions.
This milestone year was made possible with strong support from the Penang Tourism and Creative Economy (Petace) office, helmed by state executive councillor Wong Hon Wai.
Wong, speaking during the closing ceremony today, hailed the overwhelming response as a powerful affirmation of the event’s importance in both the local and international creative landscape.

“Veterans and newcomers alike gathered under one roof to celebrate this vibrant, creative spectacle. The presence of seasoned judges and an engaged public enriched what was truly a visual feast of model artistry,” he said.
Reflecting on the show’s evolution, Wong described its growth as ‘nothing short of extraordinary.’
“From its humble beginnings, MIMHS-MALCOM has soared to global prominence thanks to the vision and tireless dedication of Mr Choo Huang Ming. His unwavering commitment has turned this dream into a world-class event,” said Wong.
Wong also reaffirmed the state’s commitment to nurturing Penang’s position as a creative and cultural hub.
“The Penang government will continue to support initiatives that elevate our artistic identity.
“I hope this event continues to flourish and attracting international hobbyists and inspiring young local talents to take up the craft,” he added.
Wong further mentioned that this year’s edition was marked by a record-breaking level of participation and international presence.
He said the competition featured over 1,000 entries from across the globe, judged by a distinguished panel of 65 professional evaluators from various countries, ensuring high standards of excellence and impartiality.
“Modelling associations from 10 countries and regions contributed to the festive atmosphere, further enhancing the event’s spirit of global camaraderie.
“Adding to the scale was the presence of 87 exhibitors, up from 70 last year, representing a wide array of world-renowned miniature model and hobby tool brands.

“The growing number of manufacturers is a clear testament to MIMHS-MALCOM’s rising international stature,” he said.
Wong also extended his warmest congratulations to all winners of this year’s competition.

“Your creations are true masterpieces — meticulously detailed, brimming with character, and reflecting extraordinary talent. These accolades are well earned,” he said.
He also praised the broader community of participants, encouraging them to continue embracing the creative journey.
“Whether you won or not, your dedication and perseverance speak volumes. As the saying goes, victory and defeat are both parts of the journey. May this experience strengthen your passion and drive you to greater heights,” said Wong.
