Miss Asia Global Malaysia a boost to Penang tourism

THE first-ever Miss Asia Global Malaysia 2019/20 will be entrusted with the task as a “tourism ambassadress” to promote Penang and Malaysia in the international platform.

State Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the event, which is organised by his department together with Pageant Coach and Promotions, aims to boost the image of Penang tourism through beauty pageant.

“From the macro perspective, we take the example of Sanya City in China which has now become very famous. Actually, Sanya City started its tourism promotion with a beauty pageant, a world-class beauty pageant by bringing in all the beauties from all around the world.

“So based on that, I see that beauty pageant can also be one of the strategies to showcase our beloved Penang to other states and also to the world,” he said in his speech during a Meet-The-Press session at Equatorial Hotel, Bayan Lepas where the 16 finalists were introduced officially to the media.

Yeoh added that 10 subsidiary titles would also be given out. They are Miss Personality, Miss Photogenic, Miss Popular, Miss Congeniality, Miss Elegance, Miss Wellness, Miss Physique, Miss Charming, Miss Dynamic and Miss Crowning Glory.

Yeoh said the winner would represent the country at the Miss Asia Global Pageant 2020 World Final which would also be held in Penang on Sept 20 next year.

“The winner also will become the ambassador of the state’s “Experience Penang 2020,” he said.

Yeoh said the event would be graced by Penang governor Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas.
