IMAGINE playing a board game that features some of the most iconic landmarks in Penang.

Well, Monopoly is going to make it easy for us when it launches its Penang edition in October, which will feature unique landmarks in the state, from cultural attractions, local businesses to iconic places.

Monopoly is a classic fast-dealing property trading board game that is popularly known worldwide.

Winning Moves UK, a games company based in the United Kingdom, will be creating the Penang edition of the popular board game under the official licence of Hasbro.

It was learnt that Penang Global Tourism will be involved in the making of this new edition that will replace traditional streets with Penang’s best landmarks, attractions and popular sites.

Winning Moves UK representative Jennifer Lau said the public are urged to submit their suggestions and proposals of their favourite places in Penang to be included in the new edition.

“We would love to hear about your favourite places in Penang, your memories, must-see places and your thoughts on what makes Penang so special.

“From street markets to viewpoints to museums and everything in between, we are looking forward to creating a beautiful portrayal of what locals and visitors love about Penang,” Lau said in her speech during the Monopoly: Penang edition press conference at The TOP Komtar today.

She added that a selection committee would be given the responsibility to finalise the suggestions and proposals from the public.

All the suggestions and proposals can be sent to the company’s email at [email protected] or to their Facebook page at Penang Monopoly | Facebook.

Meanwhile, state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said Penang is excited to be the first state in Malaysia to get its own version of the world-famous Monopoly board game.

“The Penang version of the board game will be a fun way to showcase what Penang has to offer, from its two Unesco-designated sites, which are the George Town Unesco World Heritage Site and the recently recognised Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve.

“Proud to also announce that the game will be launched just in time before the year-end festive season.

“It will be made available at our retailers as an official announcement will be made once the launch date is nearer.

“I would like to express my gratitude to Hasbro for the partnership, and together we shall enhance Penang’s position as a world-renowned destination,” Yeoh said during his speech.

Also present during the event was PGT chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan.
