THE 121-year-old Wadda Gurdwara Sahib Penang received further good news today after the state government announced an allocation of RM50,000 to assist the temple in its ongoing conservation and restoration works.

State Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the temple would finally enter an important phase now, which is the actual physical works as everything else had been done.

“When I say important phase, I mean it is time for the contractors to come in and begin the physical works.

“The initial phase of cement work has been completed, so now we can begin with clustering and other formalities.

“I would like to thank the project’s committee members for their dedication and commitment all these years. As we are entering an important part now, I call for their continued hard work until the project is materialised,” Jagdeep said during a press conference at the temple today.

He also said assistance from everyone is much-needed to complete the works for one of the oldest Gurdwaras’ in the country.

“As I have mentioned previously, we will be hosting a heritage dinner on Oct 8, in which we hope to raise RM2 million to aid this project,” Jagdeep added.

Meanwhile, Conservation and Restoration of Wadda Gurdwara Sahib Penang chairman Datuk Seri Mahinder Singh Dulku said due to Covid 19, the project cost rose from RM4 million to RM5.9million.

“Through the upcoming dinner, we hope to receive all the support we can from everyone so that we will be able to complete this extremely important project,” he said.

It was learnt that RM1.1 million has been raised so far.
