A SERIES of official negotiations on the Perak-Penang Water Project has been underway since August this year, said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
According to Chow, two rounds of discussions have already taken place involving representatives from both Perak and Penang.
“I expect further negotiations to continue before a final agreement can be reached. I remain optimistic that we can achieve this within the year, most likely before it ends.
“Once the deal is sealed, the Perak-Penang Water Project will take at least five to six years to complete. This project represents the long-term solution to Penang’s water supply needs,” Chow told reporters today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced in May last year that the Federal Government had agreed to fund the Perak-Penang Water Project. The project will enable treated water from Sungai Perak to be channelled to Penang.
He added that the decision reflects the Madani government’s commitment to addressing Penang’s long-term water supply challenges.
