MORE than 600 students and 35 teachers of SMK Batu Maung are now better equipped for learning with the installation of an 86-inch smart display device in the school’s smart classroom, donated by OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad (OCBC Bank) through its Batu Maung branch.

According to SMK Batu Maung principal Pethaperumal P. Vaithilingam, the contribution from OCBC Bank yesterday came at an opportune time and will significantly enhance students’ learning experience.

“We are always looking for ways to improve the learning environment for our students. The interactive smart display device is a powerful educational tool that helps boost engagement and collaboration, enabling learners to learn more creatively than through traditional whiteboards.

“We are also hopeful that technology will continue to offer broader solutions to support the learning process further.

“We are grateful to OCBC Bank, through its Batu Maung branch, for this thoughtful contribution and their generosity. Their support will undoubtedly have a meaningful impact on our entire school community,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of OCBC Bank, Batu Maung branch manager Nicholas Goh said the bank remains committed to engaging with the communities it serves by assessing their needs and striving to meet them for the long-term good of society.

“Our aspiration to be Asia’s leading financial services partner for a sustainable future extends beyond our customers. We want to be the bank that enables the communities around us to realise their aspirations as well.

“OCBC Bank serves communities across the nation through the three pillars of our #OCBCCares platform: education, environment, and healthcare. The Batu Maung branch initiative falls under the Education pillar, and we trust that the contribution of this display device will help enrich the learning experience of the students.

“Alongside our contribution, my colleagues and I also conducted a financial literacy and online scams awareness session for the students, to help them learn about money management from a young age. Such awareness will not only ensure better financial management in the future but also protect them from cyber scams,” he said.

Other programmes under the #OCBCCares platform are Plate to Plant (environment, relating mainly to food composting), Equipped to Enable (healthcare, relating mainly to hospital equipment and devices), and Sun to Save (environment, involving the installation of solar panels on the roofs of charity homes, schools, hospitals, and other facilities).

Among those present during the handover ceremony of the display device were Ruzi Omar, senior assistant Student Affairs; Ahmad Azrizal Tahir, PTA chairman; Qibtiyah Mohamad Kenapiah, senior assistant Cocurricular; Caroline Chang, branch Head of Operations & Services; and Chew Lay Kee, branch Head of Consumer Financial Services.
