SOME 800 participants from Malaysia and around the world are attending the three-day 32nd International Congress of the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Malaysia (OGSM) programme at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre.
The event, which runs until July 13, serves as a significant platform for networking, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing among industry experts in obstetrics and gynaecology.
State Youth, Sports, and Health Committee Chairman Daniel Gooi officiated the opening ceremony as the guest of honour.
At the ceremony, Gooi highlighted that the congress reflects a shared commitment to advancing maternal and reproductive healthcare through science, collaboration, and innovation.

“This congress serves as a platform not only to discuss the latest clinical advancements and research, but also to highlight ongoing challenges.
“These include improving maternal health outcomes, addressing fertility issues, enhancing access to care, and exploring emerging technologies in obstetrics and gynaecology,” Gooi said during his speech at the event.
Gooi also announced that the Federal government has allocated RM758 million for three major healthcare projects at Penang Hospital.
“These include RM307 million for a new women and children’s block, RM23 million for a dedicated stem cell services block, and RM428 million for a new specialist clinic and ward block.
“These significant investments reflect a shared commitment at both national and state levels to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and delivering inclusive, high-quality care for women, children, and families in Penang,” he added.
Gooi also expressed his gratitude to the organising committee of OGSM, the Ministry of Health, the collaborators, sponsors, and supporting partners for successfully organising the event.
“I applaud OGSM’s commitment to improving women’s health through its many projects and initiatives. I also congratulate the society for its achievements in advancing science and for its members’ tireless efforts in advocating for women’s health in Malaysia and beyond,” Gooi said.
OGSM chairman and president-elect Dr RM Udayar described the congress as more than an annual gathering.
“It is a celebration of the collective dedication to education, innovation and collaboration.

“Over the next few days, we will explore new research, take part in meaningful discussions, and exchange ideas that will help shape the future of our profession.
“This year’s theme, ‘Embracing Diversity & Inspiring Change’, reflects our aim to blend scientific advancement with patient-centred care.
“It is a timely reminder that while progress and technology are important, empathy and compassion must always remain at the core of our work,” he added.
The congress features more than 80 exhibition booths, showcasing a diverse range of products, services, and innovations in obstetrics, gynaecology, medical technology, and women’s health.
The event is supported by several government bodies, including the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), the State Office of Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE), and the Penang2030 team.
