THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has converted the traffic at Jalan Khidmat (nearby Jalan Tanjong Bungah and Jalan Lembah Permai) to one way to ease the traffic flow in the area.

MBPP councilor Kaliyappan P. Renganathan said the council had received numerous complaints from the residents in the neighbourhood regarding the traffic congestion at Jalan Khidmat.

“The complaints that we received were mainly about motorists who refused to obey the traffic rules.

“The one-way traffic system will go on trial for three months.

“On top of that, we will be adding 10 car park lots and rearranging the car park lots.

“The parking lots will be made in a slanting manner to accommodate more parking space,’’ said Kaliyappan, who also added that there are a total of 34 car park lots currently in the area.

Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai thanked the council for their initiative in introducing the one-way traffic system at Jalan Khidmat which is a busy area.

“Apart from this area, I hope the MBPP’s Infrastructure and Traffic committee will also look into areas such as Tanjong Bungah and Mount Erskine public markets to solve the traffic woes over there,’’ Wong said.
