THE Penang government and the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) are willing to accept any constructive feedback or criticisms concerning water supply services in Penang.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that anyone, including the members of parliament (MPs), state assemblymen, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), industrials, individuals, and water consumers, is free to give feedback.

“We are willing to accept any constructive feedback or suggestions which can help to provide better water supply services to the people,” he said at a press conference in Komtar today.

Chow replied to a question by a journalist after Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng urged PBAPP to improve its crisis management and contingency planning.

Chow added that PBAPP held numerous briefings with the elected representatives on the related matter.

“PBAPP has constantly striving to improve its services and it has numerous contingency plans,” he said.

“We are now discussing the proposed Sungai Perak Raw Water Transfer Scheme (SPRWTS) with the Perak government. The SPRWTS is our long-term solution.

“We are also implementing eight water supply projects worth some RM1.185 billion over the next five years to provide reliable and efficient water supply services.

“These are all our initiatives to deliver a better water supply to our consumers,” he said.

Chow said various efforts need to be done, including building a pump house in Sungai Kulim, constructing pipes from Mengkuang Dam to the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant, and upgrading the barrage gate in Sungai Muda.

“The Penang government and PBAPP are committed to seeing Penang become a water-resilient state.

“PBAPP continues to showcase strong commitments and efforts despite having a low water tariff,” he said.
