LIKE a small boat on the ocean sending big waves into motion is the lyrics to “Fight” song which was sung by 16-year-old Lee Pei Ling at the Sing! China competition on Sept 23.
The song got her into the final and truly, for a Penang lass who enters the final of a song contest in a country with 1.3 billion people, that was indeed a big wave.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was clearly very proud of Pei Ling when she came to Komtar with her mother and brother for a press conference on Sept 28.
Lim gave Pei Ling a token sum of RM1,000 as a motivation.
Pei Ling will be singing at the final on Oct 7 in China in the contest which has renowned judges including singer/actor Jay Chou.

“This is the first time a Malaysian has entered the final of the singing contest in China. Penang has only 1.6 million people compared to China’s 1.3 billion. Yet, Pei Ling has done us proud by qualifying for the final,” Lim said.

Lim related how he used to invite Pei Ling to sing in events held at his constituency in Air Putih.
“When Pei Ling was only 12 years old, we had asked her to sing. She has sung at my events for four years now. So I am very proud and hope she can go far,” he added.

Pei Ling was asked to speak and she confidently told the media: “I was very honoured when the Chief Minister asked me to sing when I was 12 years old. Now, I am indeed more honoured to be here today.”
