Penang govt launches new campaign for SMEs to drive digitalisation to new heights

DIGITALISATION has long been the talk of the town since the Covid-19 pandemic made its mark a year ago, and the Penang government, as usual, has taken another step closer towards it by launching the ‘Penang SME Go Digital’ campaign to assist all the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the state.

This is a collaborative effort between the state government and Digital Penang.

Its (Digital Penang) chief executive officer Tony Yeoh Choon Hock, who launched the ceremony on behalf of state Entrepreneurial Development, Trade and Industry Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, said the campaign would play a vital role in equipping and educating fellow SME entrepreneurs on a deeper level on digitalisation.

“Despite all the proven benefits, the journey to go digital can be difficult and scary for many SMEs, leading to slower adoption of technology.

“For any SME that is interested to begin their digital journey, the biggest question may be ‘where to start’?

“That is when this campaign comes into the picture as it would offer a variety of products and services to journey with SMEs from learning to equipping and finally gaining experience.

“At each stage of the journey, the campaign had narrowed down the choices so that SMEs can easily choose a package that best suits them and quickly start selling online,” he said during the launching ceremony at Wisma Yeap Chor Ee in George Town today.

The campaign, which officially starts in April, would last for a month, and according to Yeoh, a total of 1,000 SMEs have been targeted to participate in this initiative.

Some of the exciting elements lined up under this campaign include micro-SMEs go-online class, digital marketing course, onboarding service, business-to-business (B2B) marketplace, business-to-consumer (B2C), e-trade fair and many others.

“I want to encourage all SMEs to join this initiative. In every component of this campaign, Penang SMEs can expect to enjoy attractive offerings by our strategic partners such as cash vouchers, discounts and others.

“A special thanks to all our strategic partners, namely Facebook, Digi Telecommunications, Small and Medium Enterprises Association Malaysia (Samenta), Averest, Maxis, Sitegiant Sdn Bhd and E3Hubs,” Tony added.
