VACCINATION is necessary not to only protect oneself from contracting the virus, but to keep the disease from spreading to others, says Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim.

Lim, who had safely received her second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at Klinik Kesihatan Jalan Perak today, urged the public to register themselves for the National Covid- 19 Immunisation Programme.

“According to the Health Ministry, at least 80 percent of the population need to be vaccinated in order for us to totally eradicate the pandemic.

“So, let us all play our part in the fight against the pandemic by registering for the vaccination programme.

“You are not doing this for yourself only, but for your family members, friends, neighbours and other members of your community,” said Lim.

Lim said despite the ongoing vaccination programme (phase one), individuals still need to strictly adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“Those who have received their vaccines, please bear in mind that you still need to follow the SOPs.

“Above all, maintain a healthy lifestyle to keep yourself fit at all times,” added Lim.

The phase one of the immunisation programme (February – April 2021) involves the frontliners from public and private health care as well those from essential services such as security and defense personnel.

For phase two (April-August 2021), it targets the remainders of healthcare workers as well as the defence and security personnel, senior citizens (those aged 60 and above), high-risk group with chronic diseases such as heart disease, obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure and people with disabilities (OKU).

The third phase (May 2021 – February 2022 is meant for adult population aged 18 years and above (citizens & non-citizens) with priority given to those in red zone, followed by yellow zone and green zone.
