THE state government is awaiting the Federal Government’s directive following the special Covid-19 meeting held today.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state would abide by the instructions from the Federal Government. The special Covid-19 meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“The state will ensure that the safety and health of the people are prioritised.
“We will be monitoring the situation closely.
“The local authorities will be on alert.
“We understand that certain decisions have to be made to overcome the pandemic while waiting for a vaccine,” he said after attending the launching of the fundraising campaign at The Salvation Army in Logan Road today.
Malaysia had recorded a total of 287 cases yesterday, making it the country’s highest daily increase throughout the pandemic so far.
The country saw a sharp hike of 260 cases on Thursday.
Chow noted the challenges ahead and urged everyone to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Earlier, Chow contributed RM10,000 to The Salvation Army’s fundraising campaign.
He said the ‘Wear It With Us!’ campaign from Sept 21 to Nov 30 was to provide holistic care to the children in The Salvation Army.
“The face masks, which carries The Red Shield logo of The Salvation Army, are given as a token to donors with a donation of RM100 or more to the Home.
“This is a great way to promote the wearing of face mask especially during current pandemic,” he said.
The Salvation Army Regional Headquarters (Malaysia) regional officer Major Francis Ng said the Home aimed at raising RM160,000 from the campaign.
“The recent pandemic has left the underprivileged vulnerable to financial distress,”he added.
