THE Penang state legal adviser will be engaging the relevant entities mentioned in the application by seven fishermen, together with Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) and Jaringan Ekologi dan Iklim (Jedi) concerning the Penang South Island (PSI) project.
The fishermen, SAM and Jedi had applied for a judicial review to challenge the planning permission given by the state Town and Country Planning director last August (2023) for the PSI.
The application was filed at the Penang High Court in December last year (2023).
It was reported by an English daily that the nine applicants are suing the state Town and Country Planning (PLANMalaysia) director as the first respondent, the state Planning Committee (second respondent), the Penang government (third respondent) and SRS Consortium Sdn Bhd (fourth respondent).
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, in a media conference today, acknowledged the Penang government received a document on Feb 13, alerting case management fixed on Feb 19.
“We have ordered the Penang legal adviser to manage the matter. The legal adviser will engage the relevant entities mentioned in the application on behalf of the state government and take the necessary action.
“Meanwhile, we will continue the PSI (or Silicon Island) project pending the court or judicial process,” he said.
