THE Penang silambam team achieved yet another remarkable feat at the World Silambam Championships 2025, held at Aspire Zone in Qatar, clinching an impressive 9 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals.
According to Malaysia Silambam Association secretary Kumara Reddy Simnachalam, the Penang contingent emerged as the overall champions based on medal standings and runners-up based on total points collected at the championships on Oct 3.
“The prestigious event featured participants from Qatar, India, Dubai (UAE), Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the United States and Singapore.
“The Penang team’s consistent excellence reflects their unity, passion, and unwavering dedication, bringing immense pride and honour to Malaysia,” Reddy said.

Qatar continues to be a happy hunting ground for the Malaysian team, which comprises entirely Penang athletes, as they had also won 12 gold medals at the Asian Open Silambam Championships held there in December last year.
Penang State Sports Council director Harry Chai congratulated the team upon their return, expressing his delight that they have continued to build on last year’s outstanding performance.
