Penang Smart Parking project bags gold award at ICQCC in Jakarta

THE Penang Smart Parking (PSP) project, launched in 2019 to replace the coupon system, won yet another award, the Gold Award in the International Convention on Quality Circles (ICQCC) programme which took place in Jakarta from Nov 15 to 18.

State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh said the ICQCC programme this year was attended by a total of 3,895 participants from various countries.

Out of the 3,895 participants at the ICQCC, a total of 328 participants from 65 innovation groups representing 40 organisations from the public and private sectors in Malaysia took part.

“I’m very happy to announce that we have led the way forward with another achievement, through the Penang Smart Parking award.

“This shows how committed we are to providing quality service to the people of Penang. It is not easy to get such recognition from ICQCC, which has been in existence for 47 years.

“But we have worked hard for the last few years and we will continue to work hard,” Jagdeep told a press conference during a break at the State Legislative Assembly today.

The PSP project, Jagdeep said, was one of the 107 smart initiatives carried out by the state government to realise the Penang2030 vision for a ‘Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’.

Under the PSP project, a total of 12,000 public parking spaces are in Penang island (MBPP) and 24,000 parking spaces are in Seberang Perai (MBSP).

“We’ve seen the people of Penang giving such a positive response. We have been working very hard. It’s not easy, but we move forward. Sometimes, we have to be firm and then we can see results,” Jagdeep stressed.

The PSP project has also bagged the MTEA Award on IoT Sensor for Smart Mobility Implementation and the Penang Chief Minister Award. It was also adjudged the winner at the Mini Team Excellence Innovation Showcase (MTEx), Regional Team Excellence Innovation Showcase (RISTEx) and Annual Productivity and Innovation Showcase conventions.

Also present at the press conference were MBSP president Datuk Azhar Arshad, MBPP secretary Datuk A. Rajendran, and Penang State Secretariat Office undersecretary Nur Aishah Md Norodin.
