THE spirit of togetherness and harmony filled the air as more than 10,000 guests from all walks of life gathered for the Chief Minister’s Chinese New Year Open House at the Setia SPICE Arena earlier today.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow described the celebration as a resounding success, expressing heartfelt appreciation to the people of Penang for their overwhelming presence and unwavering support.

“I am very happy with the Chinese New Year Open House at Setia SPICE Arena today.
“The turnout was amazing, definitely a hike from last year. Thank you to all who have made this a success,” he said during a brief press conference earlier.
Chow shared that while the initial target was 10,000 guests, this year’s reception exceeded expectations, reflecting the people’s enthusiasm to celebrate together.

“Ten thousand guests were our target, and I feel the reception was better than last year.
“There was a slight increase, the sambutan was very warm, and the performances also showcased the incredible talent of our performers, all of whom are Penangites,” he said.
Beyond the festive cheer, Chow emphasised that the open house represented something far more meaningful, the unity that defines Penang and Malaysia.

“All in all, it was a successful Chinese New Year celebration. We managed to bring people of all races and backgrounds under one roof.
“This reflects the community spirit and unity in Malaysia, and Penang has always been exemplary in highlighting such events where people of all races come together as one,” he added.
The event was graced by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib and his consort, Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah, whose presence further elevated the significance of the occasion.
Also in attendance were Chow’s wife, Tan Lean Kee; Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mohamad Abdul Hamid; Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo; Penang State Secretary Datuk Seri Zulkifli Long; State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Law Choo Kiang; former chief minister Lim Guan Eng; and Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, along with other state leaders and dignitaries.
The celebration came alive with vibrant cultural performances, festive delicacies, and joyful reunions, reflecting the rich multicultural fabric that makes Penang unique.
