Penang’s local councils score nearly 100% MCO compliance rate

THE state government will continue to be strict with the movement control order even after achieving its highest compliance level at the premises under the supervision of both the local authorities, says state Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh.

According to Jagdeep, upon entering the phase three of the MCO, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) have attained 99.35 % and 99.25 % of compliance rate respectively.

“In the beginning, the compliance rate was around 80% but after four weeks into the MCO, we have now achieved nearly 100 percent of compliance level at all the markets, hawker complexes and business premises under the councils.

“As of yesterday, a total of 183,140 checks have been conducted at the premises monitored by the local councils.

“But I would like to affirm here we will not be complacent concerning the MCO even after achieving the highest level of compliance thus far,” said Jagdeep during a press conference today.

Jagdeep also shared that the MCO compliance rate included measures such as observing social distancing, ensuring there is only one entrance and one exit at markets and ensuring movement control at public places.

“I would like to congratulate MBPP and MBSP and those frontliners from local councils, police, RELA, Village Community Management Council (MPKK) and other agencies for their hard work.

“I urge the local councils to keep up with this good work and momentum to defeat the outbreak,” Jagdeep added.

Also present were MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang, MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud and
MBPP secretary Datuk Addnan Mohd Razali.

Yew

Yew said so far, a total of 293 hawkers and 96 Ramadan baazar traders have registered with the Jom Beli Online @MBPP (JBO@MBPP).

“Apart from that, I just would like to clarify some matters concerning the MBPP’s MCO movement card.

“The card is only meant for those (food operators and hawkers) and riders (suppliers) who face problems during police checks when travelling from their home to the business premises.

“It is not compulsory for the rest of them to apply, and till date we have received 195 applications pertaining to this,” said Yew, adding that the council would later issue a statement to clarify this matter.

Meanwhile, Rozali said for MBSP, the E-Bazaar Ramadan would be carried out through ‘virtual market place’ using the services of food delivery service companies such as Grabfood, foodpanda and Hippo.

Rozali

“Those (food operators and hawkers) who would like to use their own delivery services must register with MBSP.

“Their delivery men need to get typhoid vaccination which will be arranged by the MBSP starting from April 22 until April 30,” Rozali said.
