Badminton coach offers free e-training lessons

BADMINTON enthusiasts who are feeling bored during the third phase of the movement control order (MCO) are welcome to follow ‘Stay At Home’ e-training by coach Ng Kam Fook.

He is offering free lessons via his Facebook live broadcast thrice a week, on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5pm to 6pm.

“I have been doing daily exercises to keep myself fit and I told myself why not share the lessons with my students and parents via online,” said the 46-year-old Kam Fook, who has been running the Kam Fook Badminton Academy (KFBA) for the past 23 years.

Known as ‘Black Horse’ during his school playing days and also while in the national team because of his dark complexion, Kam Fook has previously used webcam in virtual training for his students in the United States 10 years ago.

Among the players that he has trained were former world junior doubles champions Yew Hong Kheng-Nelson Heg Wei Keat, former Olympian Tee Jing Yi, and current national players Cheam June Wei and Tan Jia Wei.

“My e-training is on basic badminton, agility, footwork, skills and techniques. I hope that parents can encourage their children to take the time to join the training so that they always maintain a healthy lifestyle during this MCO period,” Kam Fook said.

Doing warmup exercise is to reduce muscle soreness and lessen the risk of injury.

Students are encouraged to get ready their badminton racquet, shuttlecocks, skipping rope, sports shoes, rubber band x10, cellophane tape and A4 paper.

For the sake of cleanliness, they are urged to wash the soles of their sports shoes with soap or disinfectant before putting them on.

Sometimes, his e-training session has garnered over 2,000 followers.

The session today is from 5pm until 6pm and those interested can follow his FB account under Kam Fook Ng.
