THE Penang Forward Sports Club (PFSC) has called on its members to renew their commitment to unity, responsibility and volunteerism, stressing that the organisation is built on collective effort.

Club chairman Datuk Lim Choo Hooi said the strength of PFSC lies in its shared values and family-like culture, driven by volunteers who contribute willingly.
“This club is run by volunteers. Everyone has work, families and responsibilities, yet they still come forward to contribute. That is what keeps PFSC alive,” he said in his speech during the club’s pre-Chinese New Year Members Appreciation Night held at BSG Galleria in George Town.
Lim emphasised that leadership within the club should never be viewed as a personal platform, but as a role that carries pressure, accountability and the responsibility to prioritise the organisation.
“Leadership is not about standing in front. Every decision must consider the long-term interests of the club,” said Lim, who has led the organisation for the past 25 years.

He outlined three key directions guiding the club’s future — reformation, rejuvenation, and reunite — describing them as essential principles for sustainability and relevance.
Looking ahead to 2026, Lim said the club would adopt a more transparent and forward-looking approach, with a stronger emphasis on the responsible investment of resources, effort, and commitment to ensure sustainable growth.
“Moving forward, members must be prepared to contribute actively and take ownership, instead of waiting to be told what to do,” he said.
Lim also underscored the importance of loyalty and belief in the organisation, noting that strong teams are built on trust, kindness and sound leadership, not merely social activities or short-term rewards.

He concluded by reflecting on the demands of leadership, acknowledging personal fatigue after years of service and signalling that the time may be approaching to allow others to step forward.

“At some point, leadership must be renewed. It is important to prepare the next generation so the club can continue to move forward together,” he said.
During the event, Lim also paid tribute to the former PFSC member Khoo Poh Tin, who is the elder sister of the club’s adviser Datuk Tom Khoo.
“She has joined PFSC at the age of 16 and is now 61. She has returned to assist the club, and we are honoured by her dedication,” he said.
PFSC, which has members even from Vietnam and Japan, goes beyond sports activities. Last November, PFSC raised RM370,000 for the Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged during its 39th anniversary dinner celebration.

Lim expressed his gratitude to BSG Property manager Teh Kok Eng and corporate controller Fong Ling, Persatuan Sahabat Prehatin deputy chairman Jimmy Lim, PFSC deputy chairman Datuk Loh Kah Hock, Tanjung Lion Club chairman Ang Eak Tian, Xtep overseas general manager Stephanie Jin and others for their support.
Members and guests enjoyed a sumptuous buffet during the appreciation night, with some celebrating further by winning lucky draw prizes, including two pairs of running shoes and running caps.
Among those present were Penang State Sports Council director Harry Chai, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Visvenathan Tangavello, who is also an organising committee member, BSG Galleria representatives and various sponsors.
