THE Penang Green Summit has once again proven to be more than just a conference as it stands as a convergence of ideas, partnerships, and purposeful action, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
At the Penang Green Summit 2025 (PGS 2025) Gala Dinner held this evening at the brand new Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC), Chow underscored the summit’s role as a dynamic platform that brings together visionaries, policymakers, and industry leaders united by a shared goal to advance a greener and more resilient Penang.

“This summit aligns with Strategy B1 of the Penang2030 Vision, which aims to prepare our manufacturing sector for the digital age and the green economy.
“Penang’s approach has always been holistic — balancing economic progress with environmental stewardship.
“Through the Penang Green Industry Programme (PGIP) and our aspiration to become a Green Manufacturing Hub by 2030, we are ensuring that sustainability is not an afterthought but the foundation of growth,” Chow said.
The three-day summit, organised by the Penang Green Council (PGC), is taking place from Oct 31 to Nov 2 at PWCC.
Chow noted that PGS 2025 focuses on practical and affordable strategies to reduce carbon emissions, embrace renewable energy, and build sustainable supply chains.
“Penang’s growth as an innovation hub depends on our commitment to sustainable development. The green transition is no longer a moral choice, but it is an economic necessity,” he stressed.
Chow reaffirmed the state’s clear direction to be a model of development that unites ambition with integrity.
“We will continue to strengthen our institutions, empower our industries, and nurture future leaders who act with purpose and conscience.
“Together, let us build a Penang that thrives because of sustainability, a Penang that stands as a beacon of responsible growth, innovation, and shared prosperity,” he said.
Meanwhile, PGC general manager Josephine Tan Mei Ling highlighted that PGIP serves as PGC’s flagship initiative to drive environmental transformation across industries.
“Through this programme, we work closely with corporate leaders, small and medium enterprises, and government partners to co-create practical solutions in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) adoption, resource efficiency, and green talent development.
“The programme aims to position Penang as Southeast Asia’s premier hub for responsible and future-ready industries, reducing the environmental impact of production and consumption, particularly in the electrical and electronics sector.
“It also helps businesses enhance competitiveness through greater efficiency and improved environmental performance,” she said.
Among those present at the gala dinner were Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Liew Chin Tong, Penang Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk A. Rajendran, Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) chief executive officer Datuk K. Pathmanathan, InvestPenang chief executive officer Datuk Loo Lee Lian and PGS 2025 organising chairman Datuk Lawrence Lim Hua Kwang.
