SJK (T) Ramakrishna on Scotland Road today received a boost during its Ponggal celebration with the announcement of an RM80,000 contribution from Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Chow said the contribution comprises RM50,000 for teaching and learning purposes, including the construction of two classrooms, which are expected to be completed within two months. Additionally, an additional RM30,000 has been allocated for the school’s development.

“This contribution is meant to support infrastructure improvements and provide a better learning environment for the school’s 339 pupils as well as its teachers,” he said in his speech at the Ponggal celebration.
Chow said Ponggal reflects values of gratitude, harmony and humanity, which remain important in Malaysia’s multiracial society.

He added that cultural celebrations such as Ponggal play an important role in strengthening unity and understanding among different races.
“These celebrations provide a platform to bring communities together and promote mutual respect,” he said.
Chow also said organising Ponggal celebrations in schools helps strengthen cooperation between schools, parents and the surrounding community.
“Early exposure to cultural celebrations allows students to appreciate diversity from a young age and helps preserve our cultural heritage,” he added.

Chow stressed that education remains the key pathway towards equality and a better future.
“We must continue to prioritise education to ensure that no student is left behind,” he said.

He noted that both the Federal and State governments continue to provide allocations to Tamil national-type schools nationwide to improve facilities and learning conditions.
Chow also thanked educators, parents and community members for their continued support in uplifting the school.
Jelutong MP RSN Rayer thanked the state government for its continuous efforts towards the school’s development, in addition to the assistance provided by the Federal Government.
“We want to ensure that pupils here can study in a vibrant learning environment,” he said.
The school’s headmistress, Vasagi Devy, described the state’s assistance as meaningful to both pupils and teachers.

Also present at the memorable event were members of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
